Tracking / Man Trailing

Tracking is a natural instinct that all dogs possess.  When going for a walk, does your dog start sniffing the ground or hold its nose in the air?

If this sounds like your dog, then tracking could be for you!

A dog tracks by putting it's nose to the ground and following a trail of human scent.

There are 5 training phases that I will teach you, based on the method used to teach Police Dogs and their handlers.

Phase 1 will be covered in my Introduction To Tracking Workshop.

By phase 5, the 'team' will be able to track a specific person's scent on both hard and soft surfaces to then conclude by finding the person. An additional distraction scent will be put down at the same time.  'Articles' will be dropped along this track which the dog will 'indicate' to it's handler.

Levels 2 - 5 will be taught once you have attended my Introduction To Tracking Workshop.  These will be taught during PAYG monthly training sessions - on a Sunday (during winter months) .

INITIAL INTRODUCTION TO TRACKING WORKSHOPS:

Duration 3hrs. Dates and times as below. Max of 4 dogs per Workshop.

This workshop is suitable for dogs of any age, breed and activity level.

Dogs will need to be comfortable being left in your vehicle, unless you have someone with you to hold them or they are happy to be tethered whilst you lay your tracks.

A free Tracking Journal will be provided to keep a record of all tracks laid.

What you will need:  A harness for your dog and a long line - pref 10 metres in length.  You will need to bring plenty of dog treats too!

Tea and Coffee will be provided free of charge but please can you bring a suitable travel mug / mug.

I've done it for real so let me now teach you!

During my time as an Operational Police Dog Handler, I successfully tracked many criminals and vulnerable / missing persons.  Myself and my dog received numerous awards both at a local and national level for our Operational tracking successes.
